The Cotton Patch Goose Society is a loose association of like minded individuals who became acquainted through the Facebook group,  Cotton Patch Goose Breeders.  The  group was initially formed after a few individuals interested in learning about these geese met at the (then) American Livestock Breeds Conservancy conference in the fall of 2012.  It was acknowledged that there was little information available about these geese and the people committed to preserving them.  Brainstorming yielded the idea of forming a discussion group using social media, and the Facebook group Cotton Patch Goose Breeders was a result of that.

The name Cotton Patch Goose Society was suggested by Alison Martin, program manager for the Livestock Conservancy, and that name has stuck.  At it's inception, the group consisted of 6 people and as of January 2026 it numbers almost 3000.  In 2018, one of the founders was asked to write an article about using social media to collect information.    https://livestockconservancy.org/2022/12/19/cotton-patch-conservation/​

​This website was created originally to lead people to the discussion group, and will in time be utilized to share the information collected over the last  years concerning this uniquely American Landrace.  It will include not only the information gleaned from the networking discussion group, but what published information is available as well.  Expect many updates as the information is assembled.

Although not yet an incorporated entity, we are recognized by The Livestock Conservancy as the official Cotton Patch Goose Organization.  Formal incorporation is being investigated.
